Farewell to Computing Professors after 70 years at Kent

On Monday 6 April the School of Computing said goodbye to Professor Richard Jones and Professor Simon Thompson, who between them have worked at the University of Kent for more than seven decades. Simon joined Kent in 1983 and Dick has worked at the University since 1985.

Head of School, Professor Peter Rodgers said: ‘We should not let this day pass without acknowledging that two giants of the School have their last day today. They were here when I arrived over 20 years ago, and the School will be an odd place without them. Both have served the School and University in an impressive fashion, performing a myriad of roles both formal and informal. Both have been Head of School in interesting times, and performed the job in a way that I wish to emulate. They are fine Computer Scientists and I’m glad to say that they will remain connected to the School as Emeritus Professors.’
Although we were unable to host a physical celebration to wish them well in their retirement, we hope to be able to give them a proper send off when we return to campus.
