Alumnus Peter Morton, who studied Drama at the School of Arts, will deliver an online workshop on Found Object Puppets for The Gulbenkian, the campus’ on-site arts venue, at 2pm on Wednesday 19 August 2020.
Found Object Puppets is a masterclass in how to create a fun, beautiful puppet out of the objects that you find in your house. From collecting and recycling materials across your home each participant will create their own unique puppet. With award winning puppet designer Peter Morton learn how to create a character, find how it can move, and then make your own. The session will end with creating an amazing music video with the puppets dancing over zoom (which will then be edited together and sent through to you to keep!). A list of basic making materials will be sent out before the session, but the majority you will already have and half the fun is working with what you can find!
Peter is a visual artist and designer who specialises in intricate puppets and clever set design. He takes great inspiration from the Japanese Bunraku form of puppetry and the Handspring Puppet Company. He creates work that surprises, is striking and bold. He now runs Half a String, an award winning visual theatre company that tours regularly across the UK and works locally around Kent & London.
Tickets for the workshop are £4.50 and the session is recommended for ages 11+. The workshop will be delivered via Zoom.
