Sian Stevenson, Senior Tutor and Lecturer in Drama and Theatre, was interviewed on the Dominic King Show on BBC Radio Kent earlier this week to discuss her theatre company Moving Memory being shortlisted for the Fantastic For Families Awards.
Fantastic for Families is run by the Family Arts Campaign, a national collaborative programme funded by the Arts Council England and led by the visual and performing arts sectors to increase levels of arts engagement by families. Fantastic for Families showcases new work created especially for families, and help families discover affordable and relevant arts and cultural activities from trusted organisers in their local area.
Moving Memory has been shortlisted for the Best Age-Friendly Cultural Organisation award, which recognises outstanding provision for older family members.
In the interview, Sian explains the origins of Moving Memory: ‘Ten years ago we were commissioned to make a performances on the University labyrinth, and we put out a call for older people to animate the stories of people living in a residential home. That performance happened; we got together a group of about ten women aged 50 to 75 and, much to my surprise, they didn’t want to stop dancing.’
The interview was broadcast 14 January 2020 and can be heard here, with Sian’s interview occurring 41 mins and 20 seconds into the stream:
