Dr Dieter Declercq discusses mental health and stand-up comedy in Reader’s Digest

School of Arts Lecturer in Film and Media Studies, Dr Dieter Declercq, shares his thoughts on the relationship between mental health and stand-up comedy in a recent article published in Reader’s Digest, Can stand-up comedy help mental health?. Dr Declercq was interviewed by the author, Dave Chawner, as part of the article in which he discusses his own experiences with mental health, and experience as a stand-up comedian. Dr Declercq’s new book, Satire, Comedy and Mental Health, looks at how comedy can be used as a mental health resource, and adds, ‘Humour can shift our perspective on a difficult situation’.
