Music and consciousness with Dr Ruth Herbert for BBC Radio 4

Dr Ruth Herbert, Senior Lecturer in Music at the Centre for Music and Audio Technology, appeared on BBC Radio 4’s popular afternoon news and current affairs programme, PM, this week

She gave a brief talk on music and consciousness, centring on BBC presenter Clemency Burton-Hill’s recovery from brain surgery. Burton-Hill, who is also a violinist, cites music as being key to her return to health following a major brain haemorrhage in January. Ruth discussed the multiple ways in which music affects psychophysiological functioning, is a particularly powerful medium for rehabilitation following brain injury and why music maybe the most versatile technology of consciousness.
