Margherita Laera publishes a tourist guide to London theatres

Dr Margherita Leara, Senior Lecturer in Drama, has published a new Italian-language book entitled Londra: Brexit Stage Left (Cue Press, 2020).

When visiting the capital, do you find yourself asking ‘Where can I find the theatres?’, ‘Which theatres offer my kind of show?’, and ‘Who’s on stage tonight?’

For the first time, Londra: Brexit Stage Left presents a tourists’ guide to theatre.

London is a city on the verge of Brexit; a tense city, but also a city with a dynamic theatre culture that moves between diverse genres, from musicals to contemporary dramaturgy, and from opera to stand-up comedy.

The book takes the reader on a journey through the spaces of theatre as sites of consumption and lived experience. As well as wonderful places to spend an evening, theatres also reveal traces of the past, and are able to show – through their history and their performances – the life of the city itself. Theatres, therefore, are linked to the era and the urban fabric in which they fit.

The book is co-authored with Bojana Janković, and an English-language version is forthcoming.
