Kaitlyn Regehr discusses Incel culture in New Statesman

Dr Kaitlyn Regehr, Lecturer in Media Studies in the School of Arts, was interviewed by New Statesman earlier this month about men who are sharing their dating app history online in order to spread their misogynistic ideology.

The online subculture of ‘Incels’ (the word being a portmanteau of ‘involuntary celibate’) promotes hatred, misogyny and racism, and has been linked to hate crimes and mass murders.

In the article, Kaitlyn talks about the correlation between the increasing use of social media and the Incel community, and the reassurance when members share their dating app statistics: ‘[W]hat is the impact of scrolling through everyone having fun without you?’
