Nostalgia podcast with Peter Stanfield

Chris Deacy and Peter Stanfield

Emeritus Professor Peter Stanfield, who was a Professor in Film and Media and launched the Media Studies programme at Kent, is the subject of the latest podcast on ‘Nostalgia’, as part of an ongoing project by Dr Chris Deacy in the Department of Religious Studies.

In the podcast, Peter and Chris discuss singing cowboys, American popular cinema, photographs and memories, growing up in Hemel Hempstead, New Musical Express, seeing Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin on stage, the emerging punk scene, and sitting next to Nick Cave at the cinema.

They also discuss how there is no separation between being a fan and being a researcher, why Peter doesn’t have a longing to return to his teenage years, the relationship between nostalgia and repetition. Finally, Peter reveals why he has never had the ambition to be a filmmaker.
