ResLife Garden: Embracing Nature

We are thrilled to unveil our latest endeavour - the ResLife Garden Project at Giles Courtyard at Keynes College.

With a vision to create a sanctuary for wildlife and a serene retreat for students and staff, we are embarking on a mission to transform this space into a vibrant hub of natural beauty and tranquillity. Our plans for the ResLife Garden are nothing short of ambitious. We are dedicated to fostering an environment where wildlife thrives and where individuals can connect with nature daily. From installing bird boxes equipped with cameras for an up-close look at nesting and hatching to revitalising raised planters with herbs, salads, and sensory plants, every aspect of the garden is designed to engage and uplift.

Our wildlife garden will come to life, complete with a pond, bee and bug hotels, a hedgehog hotel, bug wood-pile, and a variety of plants aimed at attracting bees and butterflies. This dedicated space will serve as a bustling ecosystem, providing a nurturing habitat for a range of creatures. Embracing the University’s commitment to sustainability, we will be integrating water-butts, a compost bin, and a rewilded lawn into the garden. By allowing the lawn to return to its natural state, we hope to encourage a thriving population of insects and to create a flourishing haven for grasses and wildflowers.

As advocates for student involvement, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting regular gardening sessions. These opportunities will be prominently advertised on the Home@Halls App, and students can also reach out via email to express their interest and get involved.

The ResLife Garden Project is more than just a horticultural initiative; it is a testament to our enduring commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and student engagement. We are eager to see this space flourish and to witness the valuable connections that will be forged between individuals and the natural world.
