Applying to Kent through clearing? We have some accommodation application tips just for you.
We are confident that we can provide Clearing students with a room they can call their own. You may not hear from us right away, as we send out offers in batches. However, don’t worry – you will receive an email from us. We are always here to help you with any information you need, so feel free to contact us.
Take the pressure off
When you accept your offer to study at Kent, we’ll guarantee you accommodation on one of our campuses or off-campus nearby. We have lots of options available to you.
So, here are a couple of things to know about when applying for accommodation at Kent during Clearing:
1. You just need to pick YES
As you progress through your Clearing application you will be asked if you would like to apply for accommodation in the additional information section, make sure you select YES from the drop-down, and then continue with your application. It really is that simple! You’ll need to do this whether you’re applying for a Canterbury or Medway-based course. Our Clearing team will then pass your details over to the Accommodation office who will work on allocating you to a room and sending you an accommodation offer.
2. Email, email, email
We know your inbox is likely overflowing, but this is how we’ll send your accommodation offer and more general application communications. Make sure that your contact email address is personal and one which you will still be able to access after you leave your current place of study.
3. Register your MyAccommodation account
After you’ve finished your Clearing application, hop on over to our MyAccommodation Portal and sign up for an account. This is where you’ll be able to accept your accommodation offer once you receive it via email. Once you’ve signed up, please make sure you can log in to your account, and then sit back and relax. Please don’t be tempted to submit a second request for accommodation through the portal, as we already have your accommodation application from your Clearing application. If you submit a new request in the MyAccommodation Portal, it might create a duplicate, which could make it tricky for you to see and accept your offer of accommodation.
4. Have any medical requirements?
We have accessible and adapted rooms across the campus. If you need a specific type of room to meet any of your medical needs, please email us at accomm@kent.ac.uk to let us know your requirements. We will get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your needs and find a suitable solution.
5. Don’t worry if you don’t hear straight away
Once you have received an unconditional offer to study at Kent, you will receive your accommodation offer. Room offers are sent out in small batches every day, don’t worry if you haven’t heard from us within a few days of receiving your study offer, you should not worry. You will soon receive your accommodation offer and will be able to log in to accept your room. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well, because once your accommodation offer has been sent, you will have only 48 hours to accept it via the MyAccommodation Portal before it expires.
We contact all students via email either with their room offer or with information about what their next steps are, so you can always expect to receive an email from us. If you don’t, then you can contact us to check in about your application.
6. Don’t like what you see?
If you are not satisfied with the room offer, please don’t just reject it. Rejecting the offer does not mean that you will automatically receive a new one, as we will assume that you no longer want a room on campus and your application will be deactivated. Instead, please contact us before your offer expires. You can reach us via email at accomm@kent.ac.uk or by telephone at +44 (0)1227 766660 to ask any questions and, if possible, to arrange room moves and swaps.
We want to make sure you and all our students living on campus are as comfortable as possible meaning we continue to offer and facilitate room moves all the way up to Arrivals Weekend.
7. Be informed
The best way to combat any nerves is to keep yourself informed. We have lots of information on our accommodation website about the different accommodation options at both Canterbury and Medway, including virtual tours, insights into what it’s like to arrive at Kent, moving into your accommodation and advice from previous students. We also regularly post updates, tips and deadlines on Facebook and Twitter and are happy to answer any questions you have.
Good luck and we look forward to welcoming you to Kent soon!
