Applying to Kent through clearing? We have some accommodation application tips just for you.
Take the pressure off
When you accept your offer to study at Kent, we’ll guarantee you accommodation on one of our campuses or off-campus nearby. We have lots of options available to you.
More about our Guarantee
Clearing students who firmly accept their offer to study at Kent and apply for accommodation by 17 August are guaranteed a room on campus. If you apply after the deadline, you’ll still be guaranteed accommodation, but it may be off campus in the local area.
So, here are a couple of things to know about when applying for accommodation at Kent during Clearing:
Just select ‘YES’
When you reach the additional information section of your Clearing application, you’ll be asked if you’d like to apply for accommodation. Simply select ‘YES’ from the drop-down menu and continue with your application – it really is that easy! This applies whether you’re applying for a Canterbury or Medway-based course. Once submitted, our Clearing team will pass your details to the Accommodation Office, who’ll begin working on your room allocation and send you an offer.

Keep an eye on your inbox
We know your inbox might be busy, but email is how we’ll send your accommodation offer and other important updates about your application. Make sure the email address you provide is a personal one, not linked to your current school or college, and that you’ll still have access to it after you finish your studies there. Pier Quays in Medway is managed by Unite Students in partnership with the University, so the Unite Team will be in touch with your accommodation offer.
Register your MyAccommodation account
Once you’ve completed your Clearing application, head over to the MyAccommodation Portal and create an account. This is where you’ll view and accept your accommodation offer once it arrives by email.
After registering, make sure you can log in successfully – then you can sit back and relax. Just a quick note: don’t submit a new accommodation request through the portal, as we already have your details from your Clearing application. Submitting again might create a duplicate, which could delay or complicate your offer.

Have any medical requirements?
We offer a variety of accessible and adapted rooms across campus. If you have medical needs that require specific accommodation, please make sure to include this in your Clearing application or contact us directly at accomm@kent.ac.uk as soon as possible. Our team will work with you to understand your requirements and help find a room that meets your needs.
Don’t worry if you don’t hear back straight away
Once you’ve received an unconditional offer to study at Kent, you’ll get your accommodation offer, but this won’t always happen immediately. Room offers are sent out in small batches each day, so if you don’t hear from us right away, don’t worry – it’s on the way!
Keep an eye on your inbox (and check your junk/spam folders too), as you’ll have 48 hours to accept your offer via the MyAccommodation Portal once it’s sent.
We contact all students by email, either with a room offer or details about what to do next. If you haven’t heard from us after a few days, feel free to get in touch to check on your application.
Not sure about your room offer?
If you’re not completely happy with the room you’ve been offered, please don’t reject it straight away. Declining your offer tells us you no longer want accommodation, and your application will be deactivated, meaning you may lose your place altogether.
Instead, get in touch with us before your offer expires. You can email us at accomm@kent.ac.uk or call us on +44 (0)1227 766660. We’re happy to answer your questions and, where possible, explore room moves or swaps.
Our goal is to make sure you’re comfortable and settled, so we continue to support room changes right up until Arrivals Weekend.
Stay informed
The best way to ease any nerves is to stay informed. Our accommodation website, as well as this blog site, is packed with helpful resources, from details on the different room options at both Canterbury and Medway to virtual tours, move-in advice, and student insights about what to expect when you arrive.
We also share regular updates, tips, and deadline reminders on Facebook and Instagram, and we’re always happy to answer your questions.
