In general I am interested in studying systems where both classical and quantum physics are relevant. In my research I have been intrigued by microscopic mechanisms leading to collective behaviours measurable in experiments.
For example my PhD is on a class of compounds, known as Spin Ice, whose magnetic ions show classical correlations in neutron scattering experiments. I am currently studying the quantum dynamics of the electrons in the outer orbitals of such magnetic ions.
This theoretical model aims to give a microscopic description for the propagation of the topological defects characterising the low temperatures physics in Spin Ice. Furthermore it can address some of the current puzzles in experimental research (such as the dynamics found below certain temperatures).
