{"id":66,"date":"2018-10-25T15:44:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T14:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/year-in-data-analytics\/?p=66"},"modified":"2021-09-23T10:50:10","modified_gmt":"2021-09-23T09:50:10","slug":"about-the-year-in-data-analytics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/year-in-data-analytics\/2018\/10\/25\/about-the-year-in-data-analytics\/","title":{"rendered":"About the Year in Data Analytics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">The Year in Data Analytics is a one-year, self-contained programme which offers you a unique opportunity to develop key analytical and specialist data science skills, ready for your future career. <\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #05345c\"><strong>Why should I add a Year in Data Analytics to my degree?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Data plays a significant role in today\u2019s world, from predicting your shopping habits and personalising your social media feeds, to determining your eligibility to buy a home and influencing our accessibility to healthcare, social care and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing how to understand different datasets is a key skill employers are looking for and demonstrating your knowledge and skills can open many doors for you in your chosen career.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #05345c\">What skills will I gain from studying the Year in Data Analytics?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The skills you will gain from studying the Year in Data Analytics include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data collection and handling<\/strong><br \/>\nYou will gain an understanding of the available sources of data and how to manipulate them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Design<\/strong><br \/>\nYou will learn how to specify, design and construct appropriate analytical frameworks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Data analysis and implementation<\/strong><br \/>\nYou will develop an awareness of how to implement data analysis methods and tools, and how to assess them in terms of suitability, assumptions and accessibility within a given problem.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Critical thinking and problem-solving<\/strong><br \/>\nYou will develop critical and analytical approaches to solve real-world and current problems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communication<\/strong><br \/>\nYou will have the opportunity to present technical problems and communicate their solutions to a range of audiences, enhancing your written and oral communication skills.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collaboration and team work<\/strong><br \/>\nYou will work in groups to complete tasks, assessments and projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #05345c\"><strong>How does the Year in Data Analytics fit into my degree?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Year in Data Analytics can be taken either in between Stage 2 and Stage 3 or at the end of Stage 3.<\/p>\n<p>When studying the Year in Data Analytics, you will primarily be taught within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/smsas\">School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science<\/a> (SMSAS) with some modules taught by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/\">School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Research<\/a> (SSPSSR).
