The outcome is a spreadsheet which lists all your content.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have a clearer mapping of the content on your site, it helps you to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Review and improve your information architecture (site structure, navigation and user journeys)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evaluate, prioritise and improve the quality of your content by making it strategic and customer focussed <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove\u00a0unnecessary content keeping your site focussed and easier to maintain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improve your SEO<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clarify your workflow &#8211; get a clear understanding of the people who govern and maintain content<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop your content strategy &#8211; how are you meeting customer and department needs?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide an enjoyable user experience for your customers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good content is a good website and a content audit is a starting point to helping you evaluate your site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every site may have different problems that may need to be prioritised. Along with\u00a0additional user research, such as user testing and one-to-one interviews, you can better begin to understand where your content is working or not.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Listing\u00a0your web pages<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many this may be looking at your website directory and slowly going through each folder, noting each file and it\u2019s associated web page. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are tools that may help you scan your website and provide a report of the content which may save you time E.g. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.kapost.com\/auditor\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/app.kapost.com\/auditor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.content-insight.com\/products\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">http:\/\/www.content-insight.com\/products\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Depending on the size of your website, you may decide to tackle one section at a time.\u00a0It is tedious work, but worth the effort.<\/p>\n<p>Each page is added to a spreadsheet template which notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information architecture &#8211; structure and navigation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Page details and content purpose &#8211; title, audience, message and goals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Content management &#8211; who owns and updated content<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Content assessment\u00a0&#8211; usage stats and note to evaluate quality<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A plan of action &#8211; decisions on the content.
