{"id":61,"date":"2023-01-15T08:30:29","date_gmt":"2023-01-15T08:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/urban\/?p=61"},"modified":"2024-01-03T18:23:18","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T18:23:18","slug":"urban-research-theory-and-methods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/urban\/2023\/01\/15\/urban-research-theory-and-methods\/","title":{"rendered":"URBAN RESEARCH: THEORY AND METHODS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Montecatini Terme (Tuscany), Italy, 21-27 July 2023<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">CALL FOR APPLICATIONS<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>This 7-day Field Training School and Research Seminar<\/strong> (21-27 July) is aimed at postgraduate students and postdoctoral scholars who are interested in research in urban settings and in empirically-grounded analysis. The primary aim is to train students in the \u2018art\u2019 of conducting ethnographic fieldwork and develop the link between ethnographically-based analysis and social theory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The School is organised and hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalurbansymposium.com\/\">International Urban Symposium-IUS<\/a> <u>in collaboration with<\/u> an international interdisciplinary group of senior scholars from leading universities from the UK, USA, France, Greece, Israel, India, Italy, Republic of Georgia. It will address <strong>key issues<\/strong>; including, legitimacy and legitimation; governance, stereotype and stigma; informality; urban diversity; crisis, emergency and conflict; sport mega-events; vernacular landscape, heritage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The School offers an interactive learning environment and opportunities to discuss the rationale and practices of traditional and new research methods and mainstream debates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>The School will include<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\u2022 Thirteen 80-minute Teaching Seminars led by senior scholars.<br \/>\n\u2022 Targeted observational field trips will supplement the in-class work. Students will report on the field trip.<br \/>\n\u2022 Student research seminars \u2013 Students who are engaged in research will have the opportunity to present their work and benefit from expert feedback from the teaching staff.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Participants will be required to complete readings for the teaching seminars and actively engage in discussion during the sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Teaching will be in English. Social events will also take place taking advantage of the centrality of the location within easy reach of Tuscany\u2019s world-renowned iconic places.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Publication<\/strong>.
