Elena Korosteleva \u2013 UPTAKE Principal Investigator at Kent<\/h2>\n

Elena Korosteleva is Professor of International Politics and Jean Monnet Chair of European Politics at the School of Politics and IR<\/a>, University of Ken. Elena is co-founder and Director of the Global Europe Centre<\/a> (Professional Studies).<\/p>\n

Elena’s research interests include EU foreign policies including the European Neighbourhood Policy and Eastern Partnership Initiative in particular, European Security Policy; EU governance, EU-Russia relations, Eurasia, democracy and democracy promotion.<\/p>\n

Elena is member of the International Advisory Board for the\u00a0GLOBSEC<\/a>\u00a0Central European Strategy Council; LSE Dahrendorf<\/a> Professorial Fellow, visiting Professor of the College of Europe (Natolin), and Belarusian State University. Elena is also trustee and member of executive committees for BASEES and CEELBAS, and a co-founder of the Eastern Partnership Advancement Centre (EPAC) in Brussels. Elena works closely with the European Commission, EEAS, House of Lords, European Parliament and national governments of the Eastern region. She is a regular media commentator for BBC, ITV, France24 and Sky News.<\/p>\n

Eske van Gils: UPTAKE Research Assistant<\/h2>\n

\"Eske%20Profile-1-1\"<\/p>\n

Eske van Gils is a PhD candidate, and associate lecturer at the School of Politics and IR<\/a> at the University of Kent. She is also a member of \u00a0the Global Europe Centre<\/a>. Her research focuses on bargaining power in relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, within the broader conceptual framework of changing power dynamics between the EU and non-EU actors in the eastern region. Specific case studies of her research are: democracy and human rights promotion; negotiations over the Association Agreement and Azerbaijan\u2019s WTO accession; and security co-operation concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Eske\u2019s PhD is supervised by Professor Elena Korosteleva and Professor Richard Whitman.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Prior to commencing her PhD research, Eske obtained her MA in European Union Studies at the University of Ghent. She has co-authored policy-papers on the EU\u2019s approach to the Eastern Partnership countries and EU actorness in the Eastern Partnership; and furthermore published an article on EU relations with Belarus as well as co-authored an article on the politicisation of World Bank policies.<\/p>\n

Tom Casier –\u00a0 member of the UPTAKE Steering Group<\/h2>\n

Tom Casier is Academic Director of the Brussels School of International Studies<\/a> as well as Jean Monnet Chair and Senior Lecturer in International Relations. He is Deputy Director of the Global Europe Centre<\/a>. He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Leuven (KULeuven), where he lectures on political developments in Central and Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n

Tom Casier\u2019s research interests include EU-Russia relations (including energy), Russian foreign policy, European Neighbourhood Policy \/ Eastern Partnership and Europe and global change. Recent articles have appeared in International Politics, Journal of European Integration, Democratization, Geopolitics and Europe-Asia Studies.<\/p>\n

Currently Tom Casier coordinates a Jean Monnet Multilateral Research Group (MRG) on EU-Russia relations, with the Universities of Carleton, St. Petersburg State University and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.<\/p>\n

Richard Whitman \u2013 member of the UPTAKE Steering Group (on research leave for 2016-17)<\/h2>\n

Professor Richard G. Whitman is Professor of Politics and International Relations in the School of Politics and International Relations<\/a>. He joined the University of Kent in September 2011. He is also Director of the\u00a0Global Europe Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Professor Whitman is also an Associate Fellow at\u00a0Chatham House<\/a>\u00a0(formerly known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs) and an Academic Fellow at the\u00a0European Policy Centre<\/a>. He is currently on research leave being commissioned by ESRC \u2026 [add details]. He regularly writes and researches ort hink tanks.<\/p>\n

Professor Whitman\u2019s current programme of research being conducted falls into three main areas:<\/p>\n
