What is it?
- This policy sets out Kent’s position on Information Security.
- It is approved by the Council and applies to everyone at the University – Staff, Student, Post-Grad Researcher etc.
- Applies to electronic data, paper records and any other medium used to store information.
Reasons for having the Policy
- A statement on the value of information to both the University and the individual.
- Identifies key responsibilities for defining and implementing the policy.
- Directly supports other University policies.
- Supported by underlying policies, procedures and regulations.
What does the Policy actually mean?
- The University will protect information in compliance with UK law and best practice.
- Controls will be configured to protect information from loss, theft or malicious change.
- Guidance will be provided on safe use of IT systems and information handling.
- The IT Systems will be updated regularly, and monitored for unusual activity.
- All users have a responsibility to help keep information secure
Security is for life, not just for work.
- Criminals don’t just target the University. You can make your online activities at home safer by following advice you get at work.
- Don’t be afraid to ask.
- If something looks suspicious, or you think you have clicked on something you shouldn’t have, please contact the IT Service Desk or your local IT support.
- You will not be in trouble, we just want to help.
