Following on from feedback and reports on the Wi-Fi in Woolf College, we have been working with an external surveyor to carry out extensive testing and surveys and would like to thank the students that allowed us in their rooms during this period.
After looking at the results of several potential resolutions, we now have a re-design of the wireless hardware that we would like to implement to improve the quality of the Wi-Fi service. We will be adding extra wireless access points in each flat to provide wider coverage and better signal. This requires the installation of additional data points in some student bedrooms (3 per flat) to accommodate the new layout.
We have decided to initially carry out the changes in only one block (E) to allow us time to review and confirm the suitability of the design. Due to the size of Woolf College and the impact of the issues, we want to ensure that this work will minimise disruption to as many residents as we can and create the best possible improvements for the long term.
When we have installed new hardware in E block, we will then have the opportunity to reflect on the design, test the solution and talk to residents to get feedback on the changes. If we identify any further changes are needed, we will follow up on this before extending the design to the rest of Woolf. Once we have confirmed that we have significant improvements, we will continue with deployment of the new hardware, to fully implement the new solution and improved service.
