{"id":1394,"date":"2025-05-02T09:43:03","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T09:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentsportsci\/?p=1394"},"modified":"2025-05-12T09:55:24","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T09:55:24","slug":"new-elite-cyclist-drugs-study-features-on-bbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentsportsci\/2025\/05\/02\/new-elite-cyclist-drugs-study-features-on-bbc\/","title":{"rendered":"New elite cyclist drugs study features on BBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new Kent research study investigating the potentially dangerous effects that the painkillers tapentadol and dihydrocodeine could have on cyclists has featured on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mms.tveyes.com\/PlaybackPortal.aspx?SavedEditID=e2a53f72-c5a8-4e17-a7d1-20019612fe1b\">BBC South East News<\/a>\u00a0today (2 May).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sport-sciences\/people\/2190\/mauger-lex\">Professor Lex Mauger<\/a>\u00a0from the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/school-of-natural-sciences\">School of Natural Sciences<\/a>, is leading the study which is being conducted on behalf of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The randomised controlled trial began on 1 March and will run for a year, with researchers testing elite cyclists\u2019 performances under the controlled influence of tapentadol and dihydrocodeine.
