The University and Kent Union have recently issued a joint statement entitled “A Way Forwards: Kent Union and University statement on racism” which can be found here: https://www.kent.ac.uk/news/kentlife/25628/a-way-forward-kent-union-and-university-statement-on-racism.
In support of this, the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences (SSES) would like to add that it is shocked and saddened by the recent events in the United States, and we recognise that they evoke painful feelings and memories. Unfortunately, this is another example of systematic racism and violence that the black community experiences on a day-to-day basis across the World. As a community of sport and exercise science staff and students, we want to express our solidarity with our Black students and colleagues. It is our collective responsibility to confront and combat racial injustice wherever it is encountered. We would like to reassure all of our students that SSES is committed to ensuring that we eliminate disparate practices and promote positive race relations in our teaching practices and interactions between staff, students and visitors.
