Dr Lucy Hale completed her undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Staffordshire University. As a keen runner and England representative for cross country running, she was awarded an athletic scholarship in the USA and there she completed her Masters degree in Health and Physical Education. She was added to the University honour role for her athletic achievements in the NCAA championships.
Lucy has been involved in a number of industry related roles, including exercise instruction for a GP referral scheme, and worked with stake holders to launch a healthy led walks scheme in Staffordshire. She began her academic career at Staffordshire University teaching Exercise Physiology and carried out research with the English Federation of Disability sport and HEFCE.
Lucy joined the University of Kent in 2004 and has taught physiology and nutrition related modules. Her research interests include nutritional interventions and their effect on exercise performance, her PhD thesis is entitled: inflammation and the effect of omega 3 on physiological variables related to exercise performance. She is also interested in research related to teaching, specifically how students benefit from experiential learning. This is also linked to her role as divisional lead for placements and study abroad.
Lucy is the programme Director for BSc Sport and Exercise Science and thinks Kent is a great place to study. This is due to the course being endorsed by The British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES), this acknowledges the quality of the course in terms of the teaching staff, facilities, equipment and content. Furthermore, you are taught by an excellent team who are are committed to helping students realise their potential on a beautiful campus with fantastic sporting facilities.
