A Year In Industry: Erin Spratt

An interview with Erin Spratt discussing her YII at Kent County Cricket Club

Q: Why did you decide to take a placement year?
A: I wanted to take a placement year as I wanted to gain some practical experience in an industry that interests me and is an industry which I look to pursue a full-time job in after university. I also took a placement year to help build my professional skills such as communication, teamwork, problem solving and time management.
Q: Where did you do your placement year & and what did you do there?
A: I am currently completing my placement year at Kent County Cricket Club as a Performance Analyst. This means that I help with 1st team, 2nd team and U18 analysis on game days as well as any pre-match analysis that the coaches/players require.
Q: Did you receive any support during your placement?
A: Yes, I have received support from both my placement supervisor and my performance analysis lecturer on a university basis. I also receive support from both the Lead Performance Analyst and the 2nd team analyst at Kent County Cricket Club. These people have helped me to develop both within the analysis department as well as soft skills that I can transfer into other jobs.
Q: How do you think your placement year will help you in the future?
A: I think that my placement will help me with gaining a job in the sports industry in the future as it has been thoroughly beneficial in helping with soft skills. I have also been able to network with many people throughout this year which will help me in the future by having contacts outside of my smaller university circle.
