Research into exercise and long COVID.

People in qi gong class

The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences is running two studies investigating exercise-based interventions for people experiencing long COVID symptoms of breathlessness and fatigue.

One study will investigate the impact of traditional Chinese training ‘QIGONG’. The study will involve 6 weeks of practising QIGONG, with a qualified QIGONG instructor. Classes will take place in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences Chipperfield Building. Before and after the 6 weeks of QIGONG, participants will complete a walking fitness assessment along with questionnaires.

The other study will investigate the impact of exercise in a group-based intervention. The study will involve attending 2 exercise sessions a week at the Sports Centre for a period of 6 weeks. The exercise classes will be led by qualified Kent Sport instructors. Before and after the 6 weeks of exercise classes, participants will complete an exercise assessment in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences lab, based in the Chipperfield Building.

If staff or students are interested to take part in either of these studies, please contact Professor John Dickinson J.W.Dickinson@kent.ac.uk.
