SSES staff and students have been changing the face of men’s health

Throughout November our students and staff have been growing their Mo’s to raise money for the Movemeber foundation and start the important conversation about men’s health.

This fantastic foundation funds ground-breaking work in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Four of our Final year Sport Therapy students have been resisting the shave in order to raise as much money as possible for this charity that has personal prominence to the group. The students are part of the Medway Spartan Rugby team where team members have had family members effected by mens cancer. The team mates have said that the whole team has used this month to bring awareness amongst the group about various men’s health conditions and talk more openly in particular about their mental health to assure the whole team feels supported and comfortable to talk openly in the future.

These four ‘tashtastic’ students had a fundraising target of £300 as a collective with their Medway Spartan Rugby team. The boys along with their team have far exceeded their original target, raising £295 to date. Well Done!

And it’s not just our students getting involved,  SSES staff member Richard Millns has been growing a full ‘Flanders’ moustache throughout November to raise both money and awareness for the Movemeber Foundation. In addition, Richard braved his first 10km in 5 years! He reached his target of sub 60 minutes (58:41) at the Whitstable Mo’s 10km and as a result of his hard work and dedication he has also smashed his fundraising target of £100 to reach a total of £285 to date. Congratulations Richard on all your efforts.

The group would like to thank all those who donated and would encourage people to head to their Mo space pages to continue to donate to the Movemebr Foundation.
