‘Kent was the standout choice’

For theĀ forth Question and Answer blog in our ‘Student Life’ blog series we have a an interesting set of answers to share from our 2nd year Sport and Exercise Science student Troy Culley. Troy was askedĀ 5 questions and here is what he had to say:

1. What is the most important lesson that you have learnt?

It is important to be prepared and not leave things till the last minute. If you have made lecture notes it is important to keep them as you can use them as part of revision and then also have a plan for assignments so that you know you are covering everything you need to rather than rushing to finish it.

2. What advice would you give a new student?

Be active and get involved with University. There is a wide variety of different things you can do to compliment your studies all which help the overall experience and help you develop further.

3. What support/service or guidance have you found most valuable?

The lecturers were friendly and always there to offer help which was a big thing for me as I took a three year gap from education after I finished my college course and at times worried how I would manage it all again but they really helped my transition back into academics go smoothly.

4. Why did you choose SSES to study your degree?

My initial move to Kent was based around the opportunity to further develop my basketball coaching under current England U15 Head Coach Jesse Sazant and after various meetings with the club we decided it would be best from a personal development standpoint to combine my move with starting my degree. I looked at universities near to coaching and Kent was the standout choice.

5. Where will your degree take you?

Hopefully it will further bolster my overall CV as I look to either continue in education by doing the MSc European Basketball Coaching Science at Worcester University or move into a full time professional role either in England or elsewhere in Europe.
