Hut 8 is a fast-food style restaurant located on the lower level of Turing Hub. Open daily from 12 pm to 10 pm, it’s the go-to spot for students and staff craving affordable takeaway food. With a menu filled with pizzas, burgers, wraps, and fried chicken, there’s something for everyone to enjoy – whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or sharing a late-night snack with friends.
Hut 8 is best known for its pizzas, which are freshly made in-house to order. No frozen dough here! Choose from three sizes and six flavours, ranging from classic margherita and pepperoni to vegetable supreme and the carniverous. The quality rivals that of well-known pizza chains but at a fraction of the price. If you’re planning to share with friends, visit on a Tuesday to take advantage of the “buy one get one free” pizza deal – perfect for hosting a pizza night on a budget!
Another popular deal is the Hut 8 combo: a large pizza with fries and three dips for just £14 (excluding VAT).
Their top-selling item, however, is the crispy chicken wrap, which customers can customise with their choice of sauce. Other favourites include crispy breaded chicken strips and hot ‘n’ kickin’ wings, available in portions of 4, 7, 10, or 20, with options to make them a full meal with fries and a drink.
Hut 8 caters to plant-based diners as well. The margherita and vegetable supreme pizzas can be made with plant-based cheese, and the falafel wrap is vegan-friendly. For those who enjoy plant-based meals, Hut 8 participates in the University’s plant-based loyalty scheme: buy 9 vegan meals and get the 10th one free! Students can collect stamps with every vegan pizza or wrap they buy at Hut 8.
Ordering at Hut 8 is simple. Place an order at the counter or through the “Order Up!” app, and your meal will be neatly boxed for easy takeaway. Plus, customers paying with their KentOne card will automatically receive a 10% discount on their bill, making Hut 8’s meals even more budget friendly.
With its spacious setup, Hut 8 offers plenty of room for pool tables, table tennis, and comfy sofas, creating an ideal gaming and hangout spot. This setup makes it a top choice for student societies, who can reserve areas for meetups and events by simply talking to a staff member or emailing hut8turing@kent.ac.uk.
University staff aren’t left out of the fun either! They can order Hut 8 pizzas for on-campus meetings, events, or casual gatherings. Just send an email to internalcatering@kent.ac.uk, and the catering team will take care of everything, including delivery.

The story behind Hut 8’s name
Hut 8 is named after the famous Hut 8 at Bletchley Park, where Alan Turing – one of the most important codebreakers during World War II – worked to crack the German Enigma codes. This helped the Allies win the war and changed history.
The restaurant’s back wall features a powerful mural by artist Vic Lee, depicting Turing’s life and achievements, along with the challenges he faced. The mural and the name “Hut 8” remind students and staff of Turing’s incredible work and the lasting impact he made on the world.
