In a remarkable feat, Rutherford Dining Hall has served its 50,000th Cost of Living £3 meal, demonstrating the university’s commitment to providing affordable and nutritious food options for its students.
The momentous occasion occurred at lunchtime on Wednesday 8 November when an international student received the 50,000th meal. The lucky student received a goody bag filled with treats to share with friends, thanks to Brakes, the university’s main food supplier.
The Cost of Living £3 meal scheme was launched in November 2022 to alleviate the financial burden on students amidst rising living costs. The scheme offers a variety of delicious and nutritious meals for just £3, giving students more flexibility in their dining choices.
Students can choose from two options: a meat-based or a plant-based dish. Both options come with freshly cooked vegetables and can be ordered to eat in or take away. Some of the popular £3 dishes include sweet potato and chickpea curry, pasta bolognaise, sausage and mash, and three bean chilli.
In addition to the £3 hot meal deal, there is also a £3 sandwich meal deal available all day at Rutherford Dining Hall, Dolche Vita, Mungo’s, Gulbenkian Café, and Sibson Café. This meal deal includes a sandwich, crisps, and a drink.
With such a diverse range of affordable food options, students at the University of Kent can easily access nutritious and delicious meals without breaking the bank. The £3 Cost of Living Meal scheme has been widely praised by students, who appreciate the university’s efforts to support them during challenging times.
