{"id":826,"date":"2016-02-24T17:17:10","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T17:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/?p=826"},"modified":"2016-02-26T11:26:43","modified_gmt":"2016-02-26T11:26:43","slug":"dr-anna-jordanous-on-sky-arts-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2016\/02\/24\/dr-anna-jordanous-on-sky-arts-documentary\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Anna Jordanous on Sky Arts documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Anna Jordanous has been invited to give her expert opinion on the computational creativity involved in a new musical\u00a0conceived and generated by computer.<\/p>\n<p>Sky Arts documentary &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sky.com\/watch\/channel\/sky-arts\/computer-says-show\">Computer Says Show<\/a>&#8216; follows the ground-breaking process \u00a0of scientists training their computers to write a West End\u00a0musical.<\/p>\n<p>The result of this process is <a href=\"http:\/\/beyondthefencemusical.com\">Beyond the Fence<\/a>; the first musical conceived and generated by computer, which is at the Arts Theatre London until 5 March.\u00a0It is modelled on a statistical study of the \u2018recipe for success\u2019 in hit musicals.<\/p>\n<div class=\"map-body\">\n<div class=\"hide-wrapper extra-content\">\n<p>Beyond the Fence is billed as \u00a0a powerful new musical about hope, defiance, unity and love based on a story of protestors at Greenham Common in 1982. The question is can the computer algorithms behind the score, plot line, story development\u00a0and lyrics create something that can entertain humans?<\/p>\n<p>Computer Says Show is a <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/OSz-lkVIf_o\">two-part documentary<\/a>, the first of which will be broadcast on Sky Arts HD on Thursday 25 February at 20.00,\u00a0the second part will be broadcast next Thursday at the same time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Anna Jordanous has been invited to give her expert opinion on the computational creativity involved in a new musical\u00a0conceived and generated by computer.
