{"id":774,"date":"2015-12-18T10:52:38","date_gmt":"2015-12-18T10:52:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/?p=774"},"modified":"2018-05-14T11:00:03","modified_gmt":"2018-05-14T10:00:03","slug":"kent-at-forefront-of-uk-singapore-collaboration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2015\/12\/18\/kent-at-forefront-of-uk-singapore-collaboration\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent at forefront of UK-Singapore collaboration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kent is one of only 5 UK HE institutions to have been selected for a series of joint projects with universities in Singapore to develop better defences against cyberattacks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/amk\/\">Andy King<\/a>, Professor of Program Analysis in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/\">School of Computing<\/a>, and Dr Joxan Jaffar, Professor of Computer Science at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/\">National University of Singapore\u00a0<\/a>, are coordinating partners researching Vulnerability Discovery using Abduction and Interpolation. Professor King\u2019s colleague and co-investigator Dr Aziem Chawdhary played a key role in Kent\u2019s bid.<\/p>\n<p>The other universities involved are Oxford, Surrey, Imperial College and Southampton.<\/p>\n<p>Funded by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epsrc.ac.uk\/\">Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council\u00a0<\/a>(EPSRC) and Singapore\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrf.gov.sg\/\">National Research Foundation\u00a0<\/a>, the joint grant call, launched in May 2015, sought to strengthen knowledge and capabilities in cybersecurity and foster closer collaboration in cybersecurity research between both countries. A total of 22 proposals were received by the EPSRC.<\/p>\n<p>The UK recently announced a doubling of investment to protect Britain from cyber attack and develop sovereign capabilities in cyberspace, totaling \u00a31.9 billion over five years.
