{"id":613,"date":"2015-03-25T10:27:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T10:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/?p=613"},"modified":"2017-11-23T11:18:16","modified_gmt":"2017-11-23T11:18:16","slug":"university-recognised-for-excellence-in-cyber-security-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2015\/03\/25\/university-recognised-for-excellence-in-cyber-security-research\/","title":{"rendered":"University recognised for excellence in cyber security research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The internationally leading research activity at the University of Kent&#8217;s Cybersecurity centre has been recognised by GCHQ and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the award of the title of\u00a0\u00a0Academic Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security Research (ACEs-CSR). This recognition is in the first instance for a two year period from July 2015, and comes with funding for promotional and organisational activities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gchq.gov.uk\/press_and_media\/news_and_features\/Pages\/two-more-universities-awarded-ACE-status.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">The announcement<\/a> was made by Francis Maude,\u00a0Minister for the Cabinet Office with responsibility for Cyber Security.<\/p>\n<p>The University&#8217;s Interdisciplinary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyber.kent.ac.uk\">Centre for Cyber Security\u00a0Research<\/a> was established in 2012 to focus and showcase research in\u00a0this area. With the Security group in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\">School of Computing<\/a> and the\u00a0Intelligent Interactions group in the School of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eda.kent.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Engineering and\u00a0Digital Arts<\/a> as its technical core, it contains a wide range of technical and interdisciplinary activity in research,\u00a0enterprise, teaching, and public engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The vision of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epsrc.ac.uk\/research\/centres\/acecybersecurity\/\" target=\"_blank\">ACEs-CSR scheme<\/a>\u00a0is that it will assist government and\u00a0business to interact more effectively with the university sector both to\u00a0gain insight into leading-edge university cyber security research and to\u00a0help exploit it for the benefit of the UK.
