{"id":559,"date":"2015-01-16T13:17:08","date_gmt":"2015-01-16T13:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/?p=559"},"modified":"2015-01-16T13:30:08","modified_gmt":"2015-01-16T13:30:08","slug":"school-performs-strongly-in-ref","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2015\/01\/16\/school-performs-strongly-in-ref\/","title":{"rendered":"School performs strongly in REF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Research at the School of Computing has performed very strongly in the national assessment of research quality, the\u00a0Research Excellence Framework (<a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ref.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">REF<\/a>) exercise.\u00a0We have greatly improved our\u00a0performance compared to the last exercise in 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The School has been judged to be in the top quarter of institutions for the first time, with a rank of 22nd out of 89 based on the key indicator of research power, showing that 81% of research was either world leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*). Even better is the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.co.uk\/features\/ref-2014-rerun-who-are-the-game-players\/2017670.article\" target=\"_blank\">Times Higher Education Research Intensity Measure<\/a>\u00a0which places the School of Computing 12th out of 89. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The School&#8217;s Director of Research and Enterprise, Peter Rodgers said: &#8216;Our research impact was especially impressive, with 100% of our submission being rated either world leading or internationally excellent. This demonstrates that the research undertaken by the School has influence well beyond academia.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This performance is particularly notable as the School of Computing submitted all full-time research academics to the REF.
