{"id":470,"date":"2014-09-24T09:14:03","date_gmt":"2014-09-24T08:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/?p=470"},"modified":"2014-09-24T10:01:04","modified_gmt":"2014-09-24T09:01:04","slug":"transformed-by-you-win-a-chance-to-see-your-idea-turned-into-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2014\/09\/24\/transformed-by-you-win-a-chance-to-see-your-idea-turned-into-reality\/","title":{"rendered":"Transformed by You &#8211; Win a Chance to See Your Idea Turned into Reality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you got a bright idea on how you\u2019d like to improve your neighbourhood using technology? \u00a0How would you like to improve community spaces?\u00a0 From beaches, markets, bus stops and skate parks to urban games, accessibility, learning zones, outdoor spaces, busking or street art \u2013 if you\u2019ve got an idea, the <a title=\"Embrace your Space\" href=\"http:\/\/transformedbyyou.com\" target=\"_blank\">Embrace Your Space<\/a> challenge could help it become reality.<\/p>\n<p>Through the project \u00a0local people are invited to come together to share ideas and create solutions to local issues using technology.\u00a0 You can create a community of interest, comment on and share ideas and solutions.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a great way to find solutions together.<\/p>\n<p>The project is broken down into four steps:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"nomarginbot\">Steps 1 and 2 \u2013 Give your ideas and get talking<\/h3>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n9 September \u2013 19 October<\/strong><br \/>\nDuring this phase you are invited to give ideas or a neighbourhood challenge you\u2019d like to be solved and talk to local people about their ideas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put your suggestions, ideas or challenges on the <a title=\"Embrace your Space\" href=\"http:\/\/transformedbyyou.com\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Get together in your local community groups to come up with ideas<\/li>\n<li>Comment on ideas on the websites \u2013 get a discussion going online<\/li>\n<li>Vote for your favourite ideas<\/li>\n<li>Take part in\u00a0<a style=\"color: #7d9bfd\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/o\/kent-connects-1329812983?s=27177173\" target=\"_blank\">workshops<\/a>\u00a0bringing people together to start to discuss ideas and solutions<\/li>\n<li>Pitch your ideas at the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #7d9bfd\" title=\"Pitch your ideas at the Digibury Weekender\" href=\"http:\/\/www.digibury-weekender.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digibury Weekender<br \/>\n<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Communities and developers start to talk together about turning ideas to reality<\/li>\n<li>Sign up to the Innovation Day on 29 November where the ideas and solutions will be presented and the final winner chosen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of this phase ten winners will be chosen from the ideas submitted so far. Prizes will be given.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"nomarginbot\">Step 3 \u2013 Develop the ideas and the technology solutions together<\/h3>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n20 October \u2013 15 November<\/strong><br \/>\nDuring this phase:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developers\u00a0 start developing prototypes of the technology solutions to the ideas and challenges<\/li>\n<li>Hopefully people will already be talking and sharing ideas and can work together to develop the solutions<\/li>\n<li>Test initial solutions within groups<\/li>\n<li>Prepare competition presentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"nomarginbot\">Step 4 \u2013 Innovation Day at the University of Kent<\/h3>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nSaturday 29 November, 10.00 \u2013 15.00<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Innovation Day brings together everyone involved in the project to finalise the development of the shortlisted prototypes and to demonstrate the solutions.<\/p>\n<p>The individuals who have put forward ideas and those involved with\u00a0the development of them are all invited to come along to Woolf College at the University of Kent.<\/p>\n<p>During the day delegates will\u00a0be able to meet with colleagues they have\u00a0been sharing ideas with and developers can do more work on the projects. \u00a0 Entrants\u00a0will\u00a0present their ideas to the audience and a \u00a0judging panel who will then announce the winning entry and the prize will be awarded.<\/p>\n<p>The day is being hosted by the University of Kent as part of its\u00a050th\u00a0anniversary celebrations.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #7d9bfd\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/transformedbyu\" target=\"_blank\">Sign up for the day<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>What can you win?<\/h3>\n<p>The winning entry will have a cash prize to put towards further development of the project to bring it to reality. There will also be a support package available to help take the project to the next level whether it\u2019s small business support or technology development time and advice.<\/p>\n<h3>Is the competition for me?<\/h3>\n<p>You may have used public spaces and have ideas on how they can be improved. You many never have used them because of a particular issue and have ideas on how they could be improved.\u00a0 You may have ideas on how a website, app or other technology devices you use could help people make the best use of public spaces.
