{"id":2200,"date":"2019-10-11T09:40:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T08:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/?p=2200"},"modified":"2019-10-11T09:40:25","modified_gmt":"2019-10-11T08:40:25","slug":"computing-students-among-100-most-influential-people-shaping-british-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/unikentcomp-news\/2019\/10\/11\/computing-students-among-100-most-influential-people-shaping-british-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Computing students among 100 most influential people shaping British technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Jarvis, Rapha\u00ebl Vig\u00e9e, Filip Gr\u0119bowski and Brychan Bennett-Odlum have been named in Business Insider&#8217;s UK Tech 100 for their development of their own open-source web based player for Apple Music.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/international?r=US&amp;IR=T\">Business\u00a0Insider<\/a>, the largest business news site on the web,\u00a0tracks down and showcases the 100 most <strong>influential and interesting<\/strong> people impacting the British technology industry.<\/p>\n<p>The students came to\u00a0Business Insider\u2019s\u00a0attention\u00a0when it was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/news\/kentlife\/22803\/computing-students-develop-web-player-for-apple-music\">announced<\/a><\/strong> earlier this year<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>that they had <strong>attracted the attention of Apple<\/strong> with their new music service, <a href=\"https:\/\/musi.sh\/\"><strong>Musish<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having realised that Apple does not offer a web player for its music service in the same way that the likes of Spotify does, the students, all of whom were participating in the\u00a0<strong>Cisco International Internship Program<\/strong>\u00a0in California\u00a0during the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/placements\/index.html\">Year in Industry<\/a>\u00a0part of their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/ug\/degrees.html\">computer science degree<\/a>,\u00a0developed their own <strong>open-source web based player<\/strong> for\u00a0Apple Music.<\/p>\n<p>During May, the team was <strong>invited by Apple to meet with some of their executives<\/strong>\u00a0at Cupertino.
