{"id":725,"date":"2023-03-16T12:32:21","date_gmt":"2023-03-16T12:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ucuuok\/?p=725"},"modified":"2023-03-16T12:32:21","modified_gmt":"2023-03-16T12:32:21","slug":"kent-ucu-launches-national-defence-of-jobs-by-submitting-motion-to-ucu-sector-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ucuuok\/2023\/03\/16\/kent-ucu-launches-national-defence-of-jobs-by-submitting-motion-to-ucu-sector-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent UCU launches National Defence of Jobs by submitting motion to UCU Sector Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Motion to HE Sector Conference: To campaign for a student distribution system in HE.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Conference notes that student recruitment patterns:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">mean some universities hoard undergraduate students, while others struggle to recruit.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">have resulted in department closures and redundancies.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">translate to poor learning conditions for students, unsustainable workloads for staff at universities that over-recruit and expansion of casualisation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Conference believes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">the removal of university caps on student numbers by the Tories in 2014 in their pursuit of marketising the sector has been detrimental to higher education and had a negative impact on university staff and students.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">the UK and devolved governments must reintroduce a managed system of student distribution across the sector based on fairness and equality.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Conference resolves to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">commission research on models of student distribution which can create recruitment balance in HE.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">develop a campaign for the reintroduction of student distribution this coming year, including branch resources, intense lobbying efforts, and media.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motion to HE Sector Conference: To campaign for a student distribution system in HE.
