{"id":778,"date":"2022-04-01T10:37:08","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T09:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ucuuok\/?page_id=778"},"modified":"2025-04-29T11:21:43","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T10:21:43","slug":"local-hardship-funds","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ucuuok\/local-hardship-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"Local hardship funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When UCU takes industrial action, it typically makes hardship funds available to members facing deductions from pay.<\/p>\n<p>In national disputes, national UCU sets the parameters for claims, such as how many days of action are covered and how much of the loss can be paid from the fund.<\/p>\n<p>University of Kent UCU then usually passes a branch motion to top up these hardship funds, for example by covering extra days.<\/p>\n<p>In local action, the branch will usually also offer a hardship fund, to cover as many days as is deemed financially viable.<\/p>\n<p>Details of any proposed hardship fund motion will be sent to members by email before a branch meeting. Once a motion is passed, emails will be sent to members about it.<\/p>\n<p>The exact details always depend upon the amount of action being taken and the expected employer deductions.
