Jamie Hughes and Becky Hardiman,  PhD students at the Tizard Centre, attended the 39th Annual Association for Behaviour Analysis International (ABAI) Conference in Minneapolis, USA in May 2013.

Jamie, alongside Dr Gwen Dwiggins (Summit Autism Services) presented a workshop “24 language and learning barriers for children with autism: identification and intervention”. This aimed to provide an analysis of each barrier and potential intervention strategies that could be used to remove or reduce that barrier focusing on how to conduct descriptive and functional analyses of weak or impaired verbal behaviour using Skinner’s analysis. Research using this assessment in applied settings for children with autism was presented.
