Jamie Hughes, MA, BCBA, and PhD student at the Tizard will be presenting a paper at this event on the 16th June 2012 in Geneva, “24 Common Language and Learning Barriers for Children with Autism: Identification and Intervention”. It is important to find out what a child can do, but it is also important to know what they can’t do, and analyse why. The VB-MAPP Barriers Assessment (Sundberg, 2008) provides an analysis and assessment of 24 common language and learning barriers often faced by children with autism. Once a specific barrier has been identified a more detailed analysis of that problem is required to determine what the nature of the problem is, as well as what intervention program might be appropriate.
The event is taking place over two days and the other guest speaker is Dr. Gregory P. Hanley, PhD, BCBA-D, Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Behaviour Analysis Doctoral Program at Western New England University and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, “Understanding and Addressing Sleep Problems of Children and Young Adults with ASD”.
