I have a background in genetics research, having worked as a PhD researcher and postdoctoral scientist across the UK, Germany, and Portugal.
I hold a PhD in Genetics from the University of Kent, specialising in bioinformatics and reproductive genetics.
In 2025, I founded GeneEmbryo, an independent consultancy providing cytogenetics and bioinformatics services to clients, and I’m responsible for its business development, client acquisition, and service delivery. I currently combine running GeneEmbryo with a part-time role in R&D and business support at CytoScreen Solutions, University of Kent.
Top achievements
Founding and running GeneEmbryo, my own cytogenetics and bioinformatics consultancy. Co-authoring 10 peer-reviewed publications and presenting at over 20 international conferences. Leading an independent postdoctoral research project at the University of Göttingen. Completing my PhD in Genetics at the University of Kent on a University scholarship.
Why did you choose the Kent MBA?
The Kent MBA stood out to me because it offers exactly what my scientific training didn’t: a formal grounding in strategy, finance, and leadership. Having completed my PhD at Kent, I already know the university and its community well, and I’m drawn to its practical, collaborative approach and focus on real-world impact.
MBA goals
My main goal is to build the financial and strategic skills to grow GeneEmbryo sustainably, rather than just reactively. I also want to get better at leading a team, since I’ve mostly run the business on my own so far and haven’t had to formally manage people yet. More broadly, I want to turn the hands-on experience I already have, costing, client acquisition, negotiation, into more structured business capability.
What are your aspirations post MBA?
I’d like to turn GeneEmbryo from something I run largely by myself into a properly structured, growing company, without losing what it was built on: honest, accessible genetic testing for breeders. I want to come out of the MBA ready to lead that growth well, both on the commercial side and as the head of a team.
What is the best lesson you have learned in business?
Clients trust you because you’re honest and easy to work with, not just because your results are accurate. Running GeneEmbryo has taught me that being right isn’t enough on its own. How you communicate and show up for people matters just as much.
