Scott Browne

Generator engineer by trade working in electro mechanical environments since my apprenticeship with the Royal Air Force in 2001. After serving in many hot spots around the world I left the military in 2015 and have been an operations manager within the temporary power and HVAC industry since. 25 years of experience it is now time to take it to the next level in terms of personal development and growth and bolstering the experience with higher level skills and knowledge.
My strongest attribute is my ability to get through tough situations, setting out goals and targets to be achieved to overcome barriers, both physical and mental.

Top achievements

As a “David” against “Goliath”, I was instrumental in winning huge global contracts at my last small company, taking blue ribbon event projects away from the global market leader.
Completed a half Marathon in 1Hr 38min to complete rehab within 1 year of major RTA and long term hospitalisation. I learnt to walk again after snapping both femurs and various other complications.

What attracted you to the MBA programme at Kent Business School and why?

I have to be honest, I targeted the apprentice route due to current work commitments and available funding, it then came down to KBS as the easiest for commuting and access.

What are your motivations for undertaking an MBA?

I have the desire to better understand business and the workings of it so I can grow as an individual and build on the wide experience I have to date within my industry. I want the skills and knowledge to enable a credible contribution to the business and advance to Senior Management in time to be part of making an actual difference to operational effectiveness.

What are your future aspirations?

Short term I would I aim to progress with my current employer and have a meaningful input into the future of the business and it’s growth. My goal is to reach the Senior Management team and then long term keep my eyes open for opportunities either still within the business or potentially as a consultant to industry under my own business.

What is your best advice for those wanting to progress in business?

I think that answer is best being answered at the back end of the course but I’d say for now to stay tenacious, enthusiastic and interested with energy to stay current and never close the mind to growing or learning.
