I chose the Kent MBA because I am eager to make a career transition towards becoming a decision-maker.

My strong sense of responsibility and execution capability have enabled me to deliver effective project operations and strong performance. However, I have had fewer opportunities to make long-term strategic decisions and to look at a business from a broader, organisation-wide perspective.

For me, the Kent MBA is therefore more than a credential; it is a valuable opportunity to test and strengthen my planned career direction, develop higher-level strategic thinking, and strengthen my leadership capability in cross-cultural and international business.

Top achievements

I am particularly proud of two achievements.

First, I was responsible for managing a multimillion-yuan overseas project during a complex senior-level client complaint crisis. The project had been running for over a year and involved six departments, with a highly complex communication and documentation trail. I took responsibility for stabilising the situation. I clarified the facts and reconstructed the project timeline; rapidly reported the findings and aligned with the relevant internal teams; and determined the client communication approach while recommending adjustments to the subsequent communication mechanism. As a result, we successfully stabilised the project, prevented the crisis from escalating, avoided potential losses of more than RMB 10 million, preserved trust and communication between the senior leadership teams on both sides, and protected the company’s future market expansion plans in the region.

Second, I proactively built the company’s government affairs and policy-resource system from scratch, identifying and converting existing external resources into business support without dedicated manpower or financial resources. This generated more than RMB 400,000 in policy funding for the project during two consecutive years of losses.

Why did you choose the Kent MBA?

I chose the Kent MBA because I am eager to make a career transition towards becoming a decision-maker.

My strong sense of responsibility and execution capability have enabled me to deliver effective project operations and strong performance. However, I have had fewer opportunities to make long-term strategic decisions and to look at a business from a broader, organisation-wide perspective.

MBA goals

My MBA goal is to achieve a career transition from an execution-focused professional to a strategic leader.

I plan to develop a stronger long-term and strategic perspective by strengthening my financial and business analysis capabilities, while developing my leadership capability through practical projects such as the MBA Challenge and by working with peers from different professional and cultural backgrounds.

Ultimately, I plan to move from being “the most reliable executor who enables the team to do things right” to becoming “a strategic leader who empowers the team to do the right things.”

What are your aspirations post MBA?

I will combine my practical international business experience with the strategic and analytical capabilities and responsible leadership I will develop at KBS. I plan to join a Chinese company expanding globally in an overseas strategic operations or international business management role, taking greater responsibility for market entry, international business management and strategic decision-making. In the long term, I plan to move into international business consulting, particularly supporting companies with overseas market entry, cross-border operations and risk management, and ultimately become a well-rounded cross-border business leader delivering meaningful value to companies expanding internationally.

What is the best lesson you have learned in business?

The most important lesson I have learned in business is that “doing the right things” outweighs “doing things right” in creating sustainable business value and demonstrating responsible leadership. My experience has taught me that excellent execution and risk awareness can protect a company’s core business, but timely and sound judgement determines where the business goes. A right decision made early can often create more value than repeated execution, adjustment and recovery later. This is the transition I want to achieve through my MBA at KBS — from a reliable executor focused on doing things right to a strategic leader who can confidently judge what is worth doing and lead the team to do the right things.

Tell us something about you that may surprise your colleagues?

A surprising fact about me is that I can become surprisingly obsessed with learning something completely new outside my professional world, while I am quite structured and serious about my work.

I started learning Latin dance from scratch and spent around 40 hours learning the basics over three months. I had no previous experience, so I simply started from zero, practised step by step and gradually developed the basic skills. I think this reflects a different side of me. At work, I care a lot about responsibility, details and getting things right. Outside work, I enjoy being a beginner, exploring unfamiliar things and learning by doing. I may not always know the answer at the beginning, but I am usually willing to give it a try — and sometimes I surprise myself with how quickly I learn and how much I get back from the experience, often far beyond what I expected.
