The Senior Leaders Apprenticeship scheme presented an opportunity for me to take the next logical step in my professional development, having already completed my ACCA qualification. I am local and have been particularly impressed by University of Kent’s and Kent Business School’s facilities when I have visited the latter. The focus on leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship are the areas which I find most interesting, and therefore the Kent MBA is an ideal fit.

I am currently an FCCA and Director of an electrical wholesale business employing 42 people across 7 branches in Kent, Essex and Middlesex. My role involves a mixture of overall operations management with significant input into the legal and finance function as well. The majority of my spare time is spent with my family, but if I find any extra time, I am a keen spectator (and ex-player) of rugby, and I participate in CrossFit and I’m also currently Triathlon training.

Achievements

  • Completing my ACCA qualifications whilst working full-time running a successful business.
  • In my first management role aged 22, I, along with my team, turned a loss-making business into a profitable one in the space of 6 months.
  • Being part of a senior management team that has achieved significant improvements in turnover, profitability and balance sheet position during the past 6 years.

Aspirations

I would like to improve the performance of the business I am currently employed in, before facilitating a successful sale of said business. I am undecided where I should then go, but I have considered that I would be suited to providing consultancy and mentoring services to small and medium-sized businesses throughout the South East.

Advice

Surround yourself with good people. Be decisive and focus on the financials as much as possible.
