The fair aimed to support young people in developing and establishing career aspirations by talking with employers and providers.<\/p>\n<p>We had two talented technical staff members from Kent in attendance talking about their career journeys, pathways into technical careers and all the amazing things that technical staff do. Special thanks to Georgia Mantle (Gulbenkian Technician) and Lois Cocker (Associate Technician, Natural Sciences) for being incredible representatives at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what Lois had to say about the event:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Having the opportunity to promote technical career paths in higher education to young people in a high school was a new experience for me, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Most students, when asked if they knew what a technician does, had no idea, so being able to explain this was very rewarding and sparked genuine curiosity among many of them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Throughout the morning, students learned how technical skills can translate into future opportunities, regardless of the field they choose to pursue. When I think back to my own high school experience, I don\u2019t recall technical professions ever being highlighted. Being able to change that for today\u2019s students felt meaningful, and reinforced the importance of the role we play in supporting the next generation of technical professionals.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>EBP Kent shared some feedback with us from the event:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;<em>98%<\/em><\/strong><em> of all students evaluated found the event to be a useful experience. <strong>96%<\/strong> said that they were able to talk to people about the areas that they were interested in and about apprenticeships, training providers and universities. <strong>98% <\/strong>commented that they understand more about the potential opportunities available within a sector that they are interested in. Finally, <strong>65%<\/strong> felt that the event had helped them to make an important decision regarding their future career.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Student&#8217;s commented:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u2018Really enjoyed the experience. I wanted more time!\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u2018I learnt more about my options and the different jobs available\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u2018Great for my confidence. I was so glad I did it. Really friendly people\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u2018Lots of different stands. Got me thinking about my career options and next steps\u2019\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Teachers commented:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u2018A great variety of stands. Our young people got a lot from it\u2019 <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u2018One of the best. A very positive experience. This is brilliant for our students\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u2018A huge thank you to everyone who attended. It means a lot to us as a school\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u2018Excellent range of employers. I\u2019ve made some links.
