CASES TSIG is working to increase the visibility, recognition and career development of technical staff working in sports and exercise science. As a supporter of the Technician Commitment, CASES TSIG has embedded the Technician Commitment into its strategic framework to ensure that they can support and empower technical staff. Visit their website if you are interested in finding out more about this innovative group and to connect with other technical professionals within sports and exercise science.

On 4th September 2025, TSIG held their launch event at Nottingham Trent University for a day filled with fun, networking and insightful talks. The event saw technical staff from across the UK and Ireland in attendance. Kent’s Leonie Charles (Technician, Sports) travelled up and attended this event. Here is her reflection on the days activities:

“Attending the first-ever CASES Technical Special Interest Group was a fantastic experience. It’s exciting to see the beginnings of something that has so much potential to grow and evolve. One of the highlights was the funding support available to help get as many technicians to the event as possible. As a tech, finding funding for CPD and networking opportunities can often be a challenge, so this support was really appreciated.

The event provided a great platform to discuss both the specific challenges and the successes we encounter in our roles. It was also a safe and supportive space to explore best practices, share learning opportunities, and start shaping clearer career pathways for sport technicians.

I especially loved the bingo card initiative encouraging us to visit the exhibitor stands. This brilliant idea pushed me to interact with organisations and people I might not have approached otherwise.

I’m really looking forward to the next event. Technicians are such a vital part of the sport and exercise science/therapy landscape, underpinning so much of the research and practical work that takes place. It’s fantastic to see that contribution being recognised and celebrated.”

Leonie Charles working with colleagues during the ‘Battle of the Tech’s
Photographer: Geoff Kirby

Leonie and other attendees watching a demonstration
Photographer: Geoff Kirby

Photographer: Geoff Kirby

CASES Technical Special Interest Group (TSIG) was started in 2024 by Amelia Dingley (Technical Manager at Brunel University) and Ash Osbourne (Technician at Lancaster University). … Read more

[212657,241885
