Herne Bay High School hosted a Careers Exhibition on 27th November 2025 for their Year’s 9-13). The fair aimed to support young people in developing and establishing career aspirations by talking with employers and providers.
We had two talented technical staff members from Kent in attendance talking about their career journeys, pathways into technical careers and all the amazing things that technical staff do. Special thanks to Georgia Mantle (Gulbenkian Technician) and Lois Cocker (Associate Technician, Natural Sciences) for being incredible representatives at the event.
Here is what Lois had to say about the event:
“Having the opportunity to promote technical career paths in higher education to young people in a high school was a new experience for me, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Most students, when asked if they knew what a technician does, had no idea, so being able to explain this was very rewarding and sparked genuine curiosity among many of them.
Throughout the morning, students learned how technical skills can translate into future opportunities, regardless of the field they choose to pursue. When I think back to my own high school experience, I don’t recall technical professions ever being highlighted. Being able to change that for today’s students felt meaningful, and reinforced the importance of the role we play in supporting the next generation of technical professionals.”
EBP Kent shared some feedback with us from the event:
“98% of all students evaluated found the event to be a useful experience. 96% said that they were able to talk to people about the areas that they were interested in and about apprenticeships, training providers and universities. 98% commented that they understand more about the potential opportunities available within a sector that they are interested in. Finally, 65% felt that the event had helped them to make an important decision regarding their future career.
Student’s commented:
- ‘Really enjoyed the experience. I wanted more time!’
- ‘I learnt more about my options and the different jobs available’
- ‘Great for my confidence. I was so glad I did it. Really friendly people’
- ‘Lots of different stands. Got me thinking about my career options and next steps’

Huge thank you to the organisers, school and young people for inviting us along to share technical careers and congratulations on another successful event.
