The Spring Workshop on Forensic Science: Biology, Genetics & Law, organized by the Bio Forensic Research Centre and the European Society for Forensic Science, was held from April 18th to 20th, 2023, on the beautiful island of Ischia, Italy. The three-day event brought together a global community of forensic experts, researchers, and students to discuss the latest developments and challenges in forensic science.
The workshop featured an impressive line-up of speakers, including our very own Robert Green. The speakers covered a wide range of topics related to forensic science, such as forensic biology examination, forensic genetics, quality standards in forensics, CSI management, ISO 17024 standards for specialized activities at the crime scene, forensic veterinary pathology, and legal aspects of forensic science.
The Bio Forensics Research Centre has also presented the experimental work their research group is currently undergoing. This session provided an opportunity for researchers and students to showcase their work and receive feedback from experts in the field. It was an excellent opportunity to discover new research, share experiences, and engage with the wider forensic science community. This was incredibly beneficial to everyone in attendance and it could potentially lead to the development of joint research ideas and further enhance the research and collaborative opportunities between our respective institutions.
Overall, the Spring Workshop on Forensic Science: Biology, Genetics & Law was a unique opportunity for forensic specialists, researchers, and students to explore the latest developments and challenges in forensic science. The hands-on demonstration, speakers, and networking opportunities made this workshop an informative and valuable event for both our staff and students.
