The robotics workshop took place at the University of Cambridge, bringing together technical professionals across the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) community. Two technical staff from the University of Kent, Carl Hudson and Omar Dawaba, attended and participated in the event.
The event was full of collaboration, knowledge exchange, networking and shared innovation. UK RAS STEPS have been instrumental enablers for numerous technical professionals in Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) to connect, collaborate and explore new possibilities. Attendees at the workshop engaged in insightful discussions, shared best practices, and discovered further opportunities to collaborate across the UK RAS landscape.
T-PIKE is proud to support Kent’s technical staff in engaging with and participating in these type of events. Knowledge exchange events strengthens individuals and teams, elevates the capabilities of staff and students, and delivers broad benefits to the university as a whole.
Here’s what Omar Dawaba had to say about the event:
“The day was packed with demonstrations. It was inspiring to see how different institutions, such as the University of Cambridge, structure workshops and labs. The sessions gave me ideas to share with my team about how we can develop and improve our own spaces at Kent. I presented at the event and received positive feedback. I spoke about the robotics systems I support, the hands on work I do and our facilities. It definitely boosted my confidence. Other presentations talked about research-based demonstrations, how other institutions run their makerspaces and robotics labs and how they approach technical training.
I’m very grateful to T-PIKE for enabling me to attend. Without that support I wouldn’t have had the chance to do any of this.”
Carl Hudson said:
“I had a really valuable afternoon at the University of Cambridge for the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Research Technical Professionals workshop. The event brought together a brilliant mix of specialists from across the RAS community, creating a genuinely open space for knowledge exchange, networking, and collaborative problem solving. The interactive sessions were a real highlight lots of discussion, shared challenges, and practical insights into how different institutions are supporting RAS research. It was refreshing to hear a diverse range of perspectives and to connect with colleagues who are navigating similar landscapes. It was an engaging and energising workshop. Well worth attending and a great opportunity to strengthen connections across the RAS technical community.
I’m also grateful to T-PIKE. Their support meant I was able to take part fully and bring back new ideas that will directly inform our work in technical services and digital transformation.“
