UK RAS STEPS Technical Showcase at the Science Museum in London

18th June 2025

The UK RAS STEPS Technical Showcase took place on Wednesday 18th June at the Science Museum in London.

Launched in 2024, UK RAS STEPS is a community driven research technology platform to support Research Technical Professionals working in robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) across the UK. UK RAS STEPS is one of the EPSRC funded Strategic Technical Platforms who aim to cultivate a collaborative and inclusive research environment for technicians by fostering ongoing professional development, raising the profile of RAS Research Technician careers, and promoting responsible innovation practices across the UK, and beyond.

There were more than 130 technical professionals in attendance. Attendees included technical professionals from Kent (Will Rose and Omar Dawaba from the School of Engineering) and the Eastern ARC EPSRC funded Strategic Technical Platform T-PIKE (Technical Platform for Innovation and Knowledge Exchange) Operations Team. Kent’s Technical Manager (Technician Commitment) and Co-I on the T-PIKE Programme, Joanna Scamp, was also in attendance. Jo supported the event by being a part of the awards panel prior to the event and was on the career pathway discussion panel and was the co-host of the Technical Excellence Awards on the day.

The day included exhibitors showcasing cutting edge technology and robotics, engaging talks from professionals across the UK, insightful discussions on various topics aimed at ‘Cultivating the Future’ that UK RAS STEPS could support with, keynote speech by Richard Noble (Entrepreneur, Record Breaker, Motivational Speaker), panel discussion on ‘Exploring New Visions for Technical Career Pathways’ and Technical Excellence Awards. The event was an insightful and collaborative event that offered opportunities to network throughout the day.

Congratulations to the UK RAS STEPS team for a truly inspiring event.
