The Herschel Programme for Women in Technical Leadership concluded with an in-person celebration event on 25th June. This event celebrates a six month development programme for a 205 strong cohort of women who are currently in or for whom are aspiring to be in technical leadership. The programme was designed to address the underrepresentation of women in technical leadership roles across the sector. The 2025 cohort joins other #HerschelLeaders alumni to make a network of 1000 women technical leaders from more than 100 organisations across the UK.
Congratulations to Kent’s Leonie Charles (Technician, Sports and Exercise Science) and Qi Zheng (Technical Specialist, Electronic Engineering) for completing the Herschel Programme. Leonie and Qi were in attendance at the event and participated in the days activities. Jo Scamp, Technical Manager (Technician Commitment) was invited back to the programme to co-facilitate the Culture and Context module with Dr Lindsay Davies from the UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy (ITSS) for the second year running since completing the programme herself in 2023. Jo attended the event in celebration of the 2025 cohort. You can read Jo’s case study about her experience on the programme and the impact it has had here.
