This series of exhibitions, events, and accompanying catalogue has been organised to mark the 50<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> anniversary of the University of Kent and to celebrate this rich and inventive period of creativity<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">We will be kicking off proceedings with a public lecture, the launch of the catalogue, and a private view for <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Palindrome: The Sixties Art of Brian Rice and Richard Rome. <\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">This event is free to attend, but we would recommend booking tickets to ensure your place: <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/eventbrite.co.uk\/event\/15176584573\/?utm_source=eb_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=new_event_email&amp;utm_term=eventurl_text\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">https:\/\/eventbrite.co.uk\/event\/15176584573\/<\/span><\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">The itinerary will be as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">16:00 \u2013 18:00<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Public Lecture<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Studio 1, Jarman Building<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Down Tools: Lee Lozano versus the Art World<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Dr Jo Applin, Senior Lecturer (History of Art), University of York\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">This lecture will address Lozano&#8217;s ten-year long career as an artist working in New York City from 1961 until her final departure from the city&#8211;and art world&#8211;in 1971. From her earliest drawings of workshop tools to her final decision to down tools and stop working (she went on general strike from art world in 1969) Lozano&#8217;s practice circled around questions of work and the refusal of work and it is to this aspect of her work this paper turns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">18:00 \u2013 20:00 <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Catalogue Launch and Private View <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Jarman Reception and Studio 3 Gallery, Jarman Building<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Following the lecture, we will host a reception to launch the accompanying catalogue for <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">My Generation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">, a new publication featuring essays from Professor Martin Hammer and Dr Ben Thomas and richly illustrated with images from all three associated exhibitions.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">We also invite attendees to the Private View of <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Palindrome: The Sixties Art of Brian Rice and Richard Rome<\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">. This show exhibits works made by the artists during the mid-1960s and will feature a number of bold paintings and prints from Brian Rice, as well as Richard Rome\u2019s impeccably finished sculptures and humorous and elegant working drawings.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">This festival will subsequently feature exhibitions at Mascalls Gallery (Paddock Wood) and The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, both opening later in 2015.
