The Female Nude: Ways of Seeing<\/h1>\n

10-24 May (Mon – Fri 10-5pm)<\/p>\n

This exhibition was curated by History of Art students as part of the Print Curating module. The exhibition focused on the\u00a0representation of the female nude throughout art history,<\/strong>\u00a0rethinking how the nude reinforces gender stereotypes, as well as raising questions around contemporary debates, such as feminism, body image and identity.<\/p>\n

Works on display include those from\u00a0Ellen von Wiegand, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Jim Dine, John Piper, Julian Opie and Marilene Oliver. <\/strong>This was the\u00a0eighth exhibition organised by students to run as part of the School of Art\u2019s Print Collecting and Curating student module.<\/p>\n

Carola D\u2019Ambrosio, curator of\u00a0The Female Nude: Ways of Seeing<\/em>, said: \u2018The exhibition will stand as a\u00a0visual statement of the progression taking place within the world of art but also as reflective of wider cultural attitudes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Movements such as the #MeToo and Times Up have spread widely in the last year, and there is a constant attention reserved for the narrative of the female body which is not yet fully explored in the medium of print. In\u00a0highlighting these outlooks, we aim to rethink the female nude and encourage viewers to experience the subject from a range of different perspectives.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n
