The judges\u00a0said that Kent \u2018<strong>stood out from the pack<\/strong> with its <strong>impressive and innovative\u00a0<\/strong>approach to improving academic outcomes for the least advantaged students. By creating a comprehensive network of <strong>tailored support<\/strong> and <strong>dedicated institutional research opportunities<\/strong> for such students in nine pilot schools, the University has made outstanding progress in narrowing the attainment gap, and has created a model that can be rolled out across the institution\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The THE awards, now in their 13th year and widely recognised as the <strong>\u2018Oscars of higher education\u2019<\/strong>, were established to \u2018shine a spotlight on the <strong>exceptional achievements<\/strong> of individuals, teams and institutions\u2019.<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studentsuccess-news\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG-20171130-WA0020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-484\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studentsuccess-news\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG-20171130-WA0020-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studentsuccess-news\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG-20171130-WA0020-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studentsuccess-news\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG-20171130-WA0020-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studentsuccess-news\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG-20171130-WA0020-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studentsuccess-news\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG-20171130-WA0020.jpg 1576w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dave Thomas, the project\u2019s central development officer, who was at the award ceremony said &#8220;Students are at the heart of our provision. It was wonderful to be here with the University of Kent Afro Caribbean Society president, Kent Union president, along with the university\u2019s Vice-Chancellor, Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, and other members of senior management and the project team.\u00a0It was a truly collaborative effort.
